Getting Started

createfolders.com is a free, browser-based tool that lets you define and create complex folder structures instantly. Instead of creating folders one by one, you can define the full structure in a grid or text format, preview it, and download it as a ready-to-use ZIP file.

No. createfolders.com is 100% free and requires no signup or account. Your data stays in your browser and is never sent to any server.

Using the Tool

Use either Grid mode or Text mode. In Grid mode, each column represents one deeper folder level. In Text mode, use backslashes (\) to define subfolders. Both modes show a live preview of your folder tree.

Yes. You can import folder structures from CSV, Excel (.xlsx), or text (.txt) files. Select File, choose the file type, and the tool will auto-populate the grid or text input area for editing.

You can export as a ZIP file for direct use, or as CSV, Excel (.xlsx), or text (.txt) so you can save and re-import the structure later.

Features & Capabilities

We have tested over 50,000 folders without noticeable performance issues. While this is not a hard limit, we recommend staying under 10,000 rows and 100 columns for best results.

We use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand general usage patterns. We do not use tracking cookies, collect personal information, or share data with third parties.

Troubleshooting

Check the following:

  • Use a supported format: CSV, Excel (.xlsx), or text (.txt).
  • If the first row contains headers, the tool will import them as folder names. Remove headers before import, or edit them after import.
  • The first column should be the top-level folder, and each following column should represent one deeper nesting level.
  • Files larger than 5 MB are not supported.
  • The tool sanitizes unsupported characters and handles security-related edge cases automatically.

Most characters are allowed, but some are restricted by operating systems.

Avoid using / \ : * ? " < > | in folder names.

The tool detects these issues and notifies you. If anything is missed, invalid characters are sanitized automatically when generating the ZIP file.
