How to Use Create Folders
Quick Navigation
Getting Started
Create Folders is a powerful tool that helps you generate folder structures instantly. Whether you need to create a few folders or thousands, our tool makes it quick and easy.
Understanding the Interface
When you first visit the site, you'll see a spreadsheet-like grid in the center of the page. This is where you'll define your folder structure. Each row represents a folder, and each column represents a level in your folder hierarchy.
The toolbar at the top contains all the controls you need to create, modify, import, and export your folder structure.
Setting the Number of Rows
You can set how many folders you want to create using the "Rows" dropdown in the toolbar. Select a preset number (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, or 1000) or choose "Custom" and enter your desired number in the input field.
You can also add or remove rows later using the "Add/Remove" dropdown menu.
Pro Tip
Start with a small number of rows to get familiar with the tool. You can always add more rows later as needed.
Creating Folder Structure
Adding Levels
By default, your grid starts with five columns (Levels). To add more levels of folders (subfolders), click the "Levels" dropdown in the toolbar and select "Add Level".
Each new level represents a deeper nesting of folders. For example, Level 1 might be "Projects", Level 2 might be "Client Names", and Level 3 might be "Project Types".
Entering Folder Names
Click on any cell in the grid and type the name you want for that folder. Press Enter or click elsewhere when done.
Each row represents a complete path. For example, if you have three levels and enter "Projects" in Level 1, "Client A" in Level 2, and "Website" in Level 3, you'll create a folder structure like: Projects/Client A/Website
.
Using the Preview
As you enter folder names, the "Folder Preview" section at the bottom of the page will update to show you the exact folder structure that will be created. This helps you visualize the final result before exporting.
Pro Tip
You can leave cells empty if you don't need a folder at that level for a particular row. For example, if you have 3 levels but only need 2 for some rows, just leave the Level 3 cell empty for those rows.
Importing from CSV
Preparing Your CSV File
You can import folder structures from a CSV file. Your CSV should have one column for each level of folders you want to create. For example:
Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 |
---|---|---|
Projects | Client A | Website |
Projects | Client A | Mobile App |
Projects | Client B | Branding |
Importing the CSV
Click the "Import CSV" button in the toolbar. A file dialog will open, allowing you to select your CSV file. Once selected, the grid will be populated with the data from your CSV.
The tool will automatically detect the number of levels (columns) in your CSV and adjust the grid accordingly.
Security Note
Our tool processes your CSV entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your computer, ensuring complete privacy and security.
Exporting Your Folders
Exporting as ZIP
Once you've defined your folder structure, click the "Export" dropdown in the toolbar and select "Export ZIP". This will generate a ZIP file containing your entire folder structure.
After processing, your browser will download the ZIP file. You can then extract it to create your folders on your computer.
Exporting as CSV
If you want to save your folder structure for later use or to share with others, click the "Export" dropdown and select "Export CSV". This will download a CSV file containing your folder structure data.
You can later import this CSV back into the tool to recreate the same folder structure.
Pro Tip
The ZIP export creates an actual folder structure that you can extract directly to your desired location. The CSV export saves the folder structure data, which you can import later to recreate the structure.
Using Examples
Loading Example Structures
If you're not sure where to start, click the "Examples" button in the toolbar. This will show you a selection of pre-defined folder structures for common use cases.
Select an example that's close to what you need, and it will be loaded into the grid. You can then modify it to suit your specific requirements.
